Thank you to everyone who tuned in, you’ve collectively watched over 15,000 times (and counting). Thanks too to my family crew members who helped make the show. Beyond that, I received dozens of emails and social media posts from parents and caregivers for which I’m grateful. You can see all of these young artists’ beautiful artwork on my Studio Storytime page. Above are some examples of the 100+ art submissions I received as a result of the draw-along segments. Storytime features read and draw alongs of my books, author interviews and, best of all, viewer artwork. The show brought all of us just a little closer together in quarantine. What I didn’t count on was the connection I made with viewers, fellow authors-and my own family. What a ride! I started the show as a distraction for quarantined young readers and artists-and to keep me in practice for future school visits. That’s a wrap! Write or call your local officials to help shape necessary policy changes. For my educator friends, here’s a list of resources for teaching students about racism, policing and protest. It features diverse voices in my industry and its darn good. Check out a compelling discussion about introducing young readers to voices of color. Here’s a fantastic list compiled by children’s librarian Alia Jones. ▪️ Amplify black voices in children’s literature. I found some ideas on how to continue to help make a difference and I’d like to share them with you. I watch the ongoing events with a mix of hope, pride, fear, anger and a will to help achieve equality for all.
